Abstract:
We are pleased to comment on the target article” The Markov blanket trick: On the scope of the free energy principle and active inference” by [15]. Raja and colleagues present an interesting, but in some ways flawed, critique of the Free Energy Principle (FEP). Their critique is noteworthy in that while it is mainly philosophical, they nonetheless present the FEP formalism rigorously, fairly, and in a technically accurate way. The discussion of the FEP is pitched at an appropriate level and demonstrates an understanding of the core formalism, as well as familiarity with most of the literature.
